Breeding Stock - Purebred North Country Cheviot - Proven Ram
Our purebred North Country Cheviot rams come from pasture-hardy stock and are easy keepers.
Lockwood 39K, born in March 2022 in Saskatchewan, is ready to move on to new pastures after leaving us with many replacement ewes in our flock.
Sired by an Isle of Skye ram, out of a Coneygeers ewe, this ram has sired extremely vigorous lambs on our farm since I brought him to Ontario from Saskatchewan in fall 2023. Single lambs have tended to be too large (6 kg plus), while twins have come out in usual 4-5 kg per lamb weight at birth. Excellent libido, quickly settling all the ewes in his breeding group. Solid legs and feet, with just an annual trim needed.
We’ve been working towards Maedi Visna registration on our farm on the OMVFSP, so this ram has been tested 4 times for MV with negative results each time. He is also clear of Johne’s disease, as we test all our breeding rams for that disease.
He was shorn on May 17th and given his annual Glanvac 6 vaccination booster.
The first 3 pictures are this ram, the 4th picture is his two-year old son (proven and staying pon our farm), and the last 4 pictures are of two of his yearling sons (separately for sale).
Asking $1,500, negotiable, as this ram most likely has 3-4 more years in him and he brings fresh genetics to the Ontario NCC flock.
We're happy to discuss ancestry, inbreeding coefficients, and progeny with you to determine the best fit for your needs.
We will coordinate sales of livestock directly with you, not through our online store. As such, if you are seeing this listing, the animal is available. Please contact us at john@sweethsheep.ca to discuss.
